From a cultural heritage standpoint, this is a good week.

But the conditions that made the discovery possible are not a good thing. The same drought that surfaced the altar is part of a documented pattern of intensifying European heat waves. Rivers exposed this way are also rivers that can't sustain their ecosystems, can't supply agriculture, can't support the communities that depend on them.
