A Microduck owner in 2029 whose device develops a motor fault is not going to be saved by a GitHub repository.
Hugging Face is a better-capitalized company than Jibo was at launch, and its model platform gives it a revenue base that pure-hardware robotics startups lacked. None of that changes the structural argument, which is that consumer hardware requires sustained organizational commitment that software alone does not.
What 10,000 Units Is and Is Not

What it does not demonstrate is whether the buyers who ordered last week will recommend the device to their networks in six months, whether the developer community around the platform will be robust enough to justify the open-source value proposition, or whether Hugging Face's supply chain holds if the geopolitical environment around Chinese semiconductors tightens before the company reaches its next hardware generation.
The Microduck's opening week is evidence of demand. The question every person in that 10,000-unit cohort is carrying, whether they know it or not, is whether Hugging Face and Pollen Robotics have built an institution capable of honoring what the demand represents. Consumer robotics has asked that question before. The answers have not been encouraging.
