Deep thinking requires uninterrupted time, so deep thinkers protect it. Holding multiple frameworks strains working memory for trivia, so the trivia drops. Skepticism is how you test whether an idea holds, so skeptics seem difficult.
It just isn't what the video claims.
What the Evidence Actually Shows

The Flattery Economy
Why does this content work so well? The video's engagement mechanics tell you: "Which habit felt most like you? Drop the number in the comments." Every habit is written as a Barnum statement, specific enough to feel personal, general enough to fit nearly anyone. Who hasn't forgotten keys, gone quiet in a conversation, or pursued a hobby intensely and dropped it? The video's summary even flags this itself, noting the piece "largely relies on broad pop-psychology claims rather than substantiated evidence."
There's a genuine psychological mechanism doing the work here, and it's not IQ. It's the Barnum effect, the documented tendency to accept vague personality descriptions as uniquely accurate, first demonstrated by Bertram Forer in 1948 with a single generic paragraph rated as highly personal by his students.
The flattery also serves a market function. The genre exists to convert insecurity into identity. The video's arc is precisely calibrated: open with the shame ("they carry a quiet shame about it"), close with absolution ("what you've been trying to fix was never broken at all"). A viewer who clicked because they feel scattered leaves feeling gifted.
What's Actually Useful Here
Stripped of the diagnostic framing, the video's key points hold up as ordinary good advice: distinguish productive skepticism from reflexive contrarianism, protect uninterrupted blocks for deep work, treat intuitions as hypotheses to test, convert self-doubt into specific questions and study goals, and put low-priority details into external systems instead of trusting your memory. YourTango's piece on pattern-connected thinking makes the same final point from another angle: unexpected connections "often reveal patterns," which is an invitation to check, not a certificate.
Whether any of these habits correlates with intelligence at the population level is a research question with partial and mixed answers. Whether they describe you is a question no nine-minute video can answer, and the ones that claim to are, functionally, in the compliment business. The video ends by telling viewers "your rarity was never your weakness." The more useful ending is a question it never asks: if these habits disappeared tomorrow, what would you actually lose, and what would you change on purpose?
