Welcome to the Google Cloud https://cloud.google.com/ AI Agent Build-Off, where coding wizards transform coffee and code into an AI co-founder in just 72 hours. The mission? Craft a go-to-market (GTM) agent that can autonomously tackle a startup's biggest headaches, from pitch creation to SEO magic.

The Challenge

Picture this: three teams, each with a unique brew of creativity and code, racing against time to harness the power of Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK) and Gemini models. Their goal? To conjure an AI sidekick that no startup founder knew they needed but now can't live without.

Daniel, one of the contestants, sums it up: "We’re going to tackle a huge problem every startup runs into. You have a product but have zero traction. The answer, a go-to-market sidekick for founders. Oh, and also we’re going to do it in 72 hours."

Diverse Approaches to Innovation

The teams, each with their own flair, dive headfirst into the challenge. Muhammad and Ayo focus on seamless context sharing between agents. Meanwhile, Zach and Laxmi play a game of inception, building agents that call sub-agents in a cascading sequence. Daniel and Luis, on the other hand, create an ADK agent to, quite literally, teach themselves how to use the ADK.

Each team faces its own set of trials, from debugging sessions that feel eternal to grappling with deployment hurdles. "A lot of blood, sweat, and tears," says Lakshmi, reflecting on their journey through the challenges.

The Technical Playground

The hackathon isn't just about flashy demos; it's a crash course in agent orchestration and context sharing. By breaking down complex tasks into smaller, manageable processes, these developers optimize performance and efficiency—a crucial skill in any coder's toolkit.

Luis explains, "If you go deep dive into the code, you’ll really understand the different agent orchestration. When you talk about multi-agent apps, two things that matter are the orchestration, how these agents work together, and the second thing is context."

Lessons in Innovation

Despite the chaos, the event is a testament to the power of diverse strategies in tackling complex problems. The developers leverage existing frameworks like the ADK, aiming to align their technological solutions with the real-world needs of startup founders.

Their creations include everything from multimodal inputs and MCP servers to the A2A protocol. The result? A suite of AI tools designed to help startups build, test, and refine their go-to-market strategies.

The Road Ahead

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the potential of AI in optimizing startup strategies is vast and largely untapped. This event highlights not only the immediate capabilities of AI but also its future possibilities.

The hackathon concludes with a demo of the projects, showcasing the teams’ hard work and ingenuity. Despite the tight deadline and technical challenges, the participants emerge with a deeper understanding of AI agent development—and a few more gray hairs.

In the words of Daniel, "The system works in three simple steps, but these are very crucial to our agentic system. In the first step, we have clarification. So we want to get to know the founders beyond what they’re building. It’s like a team member that you can actually brainstorm with."

And isn't that the dream? An AI co-founder that helps you brainstorm, innovate, and execute your vision. This 72-hour race is just the beginning.
