That's not replacing scientists—it's removing friction between their expertise and the tools.

The biotech folks explained it this way: "There are so many labs out there that do not have any form of automation so they're doing everything manually, which is painful and annoying and you know you're not focusing on the actual science you're focusing on the mechanism of the science."

Or the companies building humanoid robots with a deliberate roadmap: industrial applications first, then hospitality and retail, eventually households. Not because household robots are impossible, but because you need to walk before you run.

None of these are the sci-fi scenarios that dominate AI discourse. They're specific, pragmatic, already working. Tae Kim, author of The Nvidia Way, made the point explicitly: "The use cases that are verifiable like coding, robots, simulating, drug discovery. That's the stuff that's going to be great the next few years. We're going to see massive innovations."

Verifiable is the key word. When you can measure whether something worked, AI becomes a tool. When outputs are subjective or consequences are distant, you get slop.

The Tension That Actually Matters

The video creator notes that there was "probably more fear of upper management understanding AI than the AI itself." That's the through-line. The technology is maturing faster than organizational wisdom about how to deploy it.

You can see this playing out in real time. Some companies will use AI to amplify their workforce and expand what's possible. Others will use it as cover for downsizing. Five years from now, we'll have case studies showing which approach worked.

Maybe this is a Promethean moment. Maybe it's late-stage capitalism hitting a wall. Or maybe—and this is where I land—it's both depending on who controls the infrastructure and who benefits from the productivity gains. The technology itself is reasonably neutral. The economic structures deploying it are not.

Ten years ago, customers looked at eight GPUs and couldn't imagine a use case. Today those same GPUs are training robots, translating languages in real-time, and letting scientists describe experiments instead of coding them. That happened because people who knew what they were doing got access to new capabilities.

The question now is whether we amplify those capabilities or use them as an excuse to do less with fewer people. It's not a technology question. It never was.
